After leaving university and getting a total of 9 responses from the 30+ radio stations I contacted about employment, things were looking rather grim. Especially seeing as all 9 responses were letters resembling the form of "Thanks, but no thanks". Apart from The NRG in Bournemouth, which was simply "No thanks", accompanied by a couple of comments that made it obvious they hadn't even bothered to listen to my demo tape. And then along came Matt's dad. Having just sat through the pain that was graduation, he approached me with the news that the hospital radio station in Dorchester, Ridgeway Radio, were planning a 48-hour marathon broadcast in aid of Children in Need, and that he was looking for someone to fill a couple of slots. I jumped at the chance (not literally of course, because those graduation gowns are actually very heavy items of clothing), and the rest, as many unimaginative authors have said, is history. I now present a weekly show on Ridgeway every Sunday, and since the beginning of March, I've been joined in the studio every week by Whitt, adding a truly hilarious (or scary, one of the two) aspect to the show. With it aimed at the hospital's children's ward we're getting some very useful experience of music radio for a youth-based audience. And Bob The Builder has only been played once. Hopefully Whitt and I will have our own show website coming soon, but for now, examples of how it all sounds can be found by following the link on the left.
